Four Times Tables

Today Room 4 worked together to make a times table video.  Taiala and Matthew used explain everything to show the times tables.  We then turned it into a song.  Matthew played the ukulele, Siale and Falakiko played beats on the paper bin and the rest of the class sang.  After that we used imovie to put it all together.  Hopefully it will help you learn your times tables.

Measuring Up

We have been learning about measurement in Room 4.  We have been learning to measure width and height using mm, cm and metres.  The Taimana maths group had to choose something to measure and the appropriate unit of measurement to measure it with.  They used the ipad to take pictures of their measurement  and then created a video of their findings using movenote.  Are all their measurements correct? Leave them a comment and let them know.

Read to Someone

As part of the daily five program we have been learning how to read to a buddy.  Our buddy listens to us read and summarises what they heard.  We then ask each other questions to check our understanding before swapping roles.  Here are some photos of our first buddy reading session.

Waitangi Day

This week we have been learning about Waitangi Day and the Treaty.  We all had alot of questions about why we have Waitangi Day so we got into groups and did some research using books and Google.  We then used ipads and made a movie to share what we had learnt.  Here are our first two movies.

Rights and Responsibilities

We had a great time getting to know each other last week and discussing our rights and responsibilities as members of the Room 4 community.  We ready to start learning and we know it is going to be great year.  Here are the rights and responsibilities we came up with as a class:

In Room 4 everyone has the right to:

  • Be treated with respect.
  • Have different opinions and beliefs.
  • To learn and to teach.
  • To feel safe and welcome.
  • Use the classroom equipment.

In Room 4 everyone has a responsibility to:

  • Treat other people with respect and kindness.
  • Come to class prepared to learn everyday.
  • Follow instructions.
  • Let others work without disturbing them.
  • Do their best work..
  • Be a capable and independent learner.
  • Look after and share our classroom equipment.
  • Make sensible choices!

We have also been completing some team building activities. We know that as a part of team we need to support and encourage one another to ensure that we are all successful. Take a look the photos below to see what we got up to.

THE GINGERBREAD CAT By Siale

Once upon a time a long time ago, there was an old man and an old woman. They lived in a big house. They had a family. The old man had an old hat and the old pants. The house was big and cool. The man wanted a pet but they couldn’t have one. The old woman wanted a pet too so they made a Gingerbread Cat.

One day the old woman came home and the Gingerbread cat ran past her and ran outside.  The old woman said, “Stop! Stop, Gingerbread Cat!” The Gingerbread Cat said back “Run, run so fast with your hat. You can’t catch me, I’m the Gingerbread Cat.”

The Gingerbread cat was outside. Then he saw a Koala. The Koala said, “Stop! Stop, Gingerbread Cat!” The Gingerbread Cat said back “Run, run so fast with your hat. You can’t catch me, I’m the Gingerbread Cat.”

Gingerbread Cat came to a road and he saw Constable Taina.  Constable Taina saw the Gingerbread Cat and stopped the traffic on the road so that Gingerbread Cat could cross the road.

When Gingerbread Cat got across the road Constable Taina picked him up and ate him. Constable Taina was happy because she had the Gingerbread Cat in her tummy. Constable Taina lived happily ever after.
