Measuring Up

We have been learning about measurement in Room 4.  We have been learning to measure width and height using mm, cm and metres.  The Taimana maths group had to choose something to measure and the appropriate unit of measurement to measure it with.  They used the ipad to take pictures of their measurement  and then created a video of their findings using movenote.  Are all their measurements correct? Leave them a comment and let them know.

Wally's Weekend with Helen

Helen was very excited to take Wally home last weekend and introduce him to her new baby brother.  Wally had a great time and he enjoyed playing with Helen and her family.  He especially enjoyed having KFC for dinner.

Read to Someone

As part of the daily five program we have been learning how to read to a buddy.  Our buddy listens to us read and summarises what they heard.  We then ask each other questions to check our understanding before swapping roles.  Here are some photos of our first buddy reading session.

Wally's First Weekend Adventure

Wally is Room 4's Giraffe and each weekend he goes home with someone who has been spotted being a great team member.  He has his very own bag with a camera, book and some felt pens.  Last weekend he went home with Helen for his very first weekend away!  Helen took lots of photos and wrote two stories in his book.

Take a look at the photos Helen took during the weekend.

Waitangi Day

This week we have been learning about Waitangi Day and the Treaty.  We all had alot of questions about why we have Waitangi Day so we got into groups and did some research using books and Google.  We then used ipads and made a movie to share what we had learnt.  Here are our first two movies.

Rights and Responsibilities

We had a great time getting to know each other last week and discussing our rights and responsibilities as members of the Room 4 community.  We ready to start learning and we know it is going to be great year.  Here are the rights and responsibilities we came up with as a class:

In Room 4 everyone has the right to:

  • Be treated with respect.
  • Have different opinions and beliefs.
  • To learn and to teach.
  • To feel safe and welcome.
  • Use the classroom equipment.

In Room 4 everyone has a responsibility to:

  • Treat other people with respect and kindness.
  • Come to class prepared to learn everyday.
  • Follow instructions.
  • Let others work without disturbing them.
  • Do their best work..
  • Be a capable and independent learner.
  • Look after and share our classroom equipment.
  • Make sensible choices!

We have also been completing some team building activities. We know that as a part of team we need to support and encourage one another to ensure that we are all successful. Take a look the photos below to see what we got up to.
