Writing Persuasive Letters

In Room 4 we are writing letters to the Conservation Minister Nick Smith to try and persuade him to do more to protect the Maui Dolphin.  As part of this Leilani, Demetrius, Constance and Ricky were learning about Modal verbs and how they change the persuasiveness of our letters. Here is a cline they worked together to complete and some sentences they wrote using strong modal verbs.

Ricky's Writing Goals and Reflection

This term we are going to work hard to make sure we reflect on our goals.  Today we looked at our writing goals for term three and reflected on them to see how we were doing.  Here is Ricky's reflection on his writing goals.

Explain Everything

Hi we have been learning how to use explain everything on the ipads.  Matthew and Germain have created a video to demonstrate their knowledge of place value.  Let us know what you think. Remember if you think they have made a mistake leave a comment and let them know.

Wally's Lastest Adventures

Wally has been very busy over the past few months, going to Rainbow's End, Birthday parties and just spending time with the families of Room 4 children.  Here is a video showing what he has been getting up to.

Superhero Day

On Friday we had a superhero mufti day to raise money for the year 7/8 camp.  We had a lot of superheroes protecting our school and it was a great day.  Take a look at the pictures to see what we got up to.

Read to Someone

As part of the daily five program we have been learning how to read to a buddy.  Our buddy listens to us read and summarises what they heard.  We then ask each other questions to check our understanding before swapping roles.  Here are some photos of our first buddy reading session.

Building Our Reading Stamina

Over the past few weeks we have been learning about the daily five.  As part of this we have learning to read to ourselves and build our stamina so that we can read for longer.  It must be working because this morning Ricky and Germain both walked into the class reading a book and they continued to read until the bell rang.  Great reading stamina, just be careful not to walk into any trees if you are reading and walking.

Rights and Responsibilities

We had a great time getting to know each other last week and discussing our rights and responsibilities as members of the Room 4 community.  We ready to start learning and we know it is going to be great year.  Here are the rights and responsibilities we came up with as a class:

In Room 4 everyone has the right to:

• Be treated with respect.
• Have different opinions and beliefs.
• To learn and to teach.
• To feel safe and welcome.
• Use the classroom equipment.  

In Room 4 everyone has a responsibility to:

• Treat other people with respect and kindness.
• Come to class prepared to learn everyday.
• Follow instructions.
• Let others work without disturbing them.
• Do their best work..
• Be a capable and independent learner.
• Look after and share our classroom equipment.
• Make sensible choices!  

We have also been completing some team building activities. We know that as a part of team we need to support and encourage one another to ensure that we are all successful. Take a look the photos below to see what we got up to.
